Hazard, Girard honoured at Ligue 1 awards

5月 17th, 2012 by yanqing

Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleLille’s Eden Hazard was crowned Ligue 1’s Players’ Player of the Year for the second consecutive season on Monday, while Montpellier’s Rene Girard was named Coach of the Year.
The awards, voted for by players and coaches in France’s top two divisions, were due to be handed out at the annual UNFP (National Union of Professional Footballers) awards gala later on Monday evening.
Hazard, 21, saw off competition from Paris Saint-Germain’s Nene and Montpellier pair Younes Belhanda and Olivier Giroud to take home the prize for the best player in France.
“It’s an award voted for by the players, so it’s nice to know that you’re appreciated,” said Hazard.
“It’s my best season in terms of statistics, but last year wasn’t bad either, with the double. I would have preferred to leave on an even better collective note, but we’ve qualified for the Champions League. Personally, I’ve given the best of myself.”
As well as winning the award last season, the Belgian international was previously crowned Young Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
This season, the young player award went to Belhanda.
Lille have failed to defend their league and French Cup titles this season but Hazard has nonetheless enjoyed his most complete campaign to date, scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists in Ligue 1.
He has declared his intention to leave Lille this summer and is reportedly poised to join either Manchester City or Manchester United.
Giroud and Nene are currently neck-and-neck in the scoring charts with 21 goals each, while Belhanda has been the creative inspiration behind Montpellier’s unexpected title challenge. Air Jordan Womens sale online
Girard, 58, was rewarded for taking Montpellier to within a point of the first Ligue 1 title in their history.
Following Sunday’s dramatic 1-0 defeat of Lille, Montpellier require a draw from their final game of the season at relegated Auxerre on Sunday to claim the title ahead of PSG. new air jordan fusion shoes
Girard took over at Montpellier in 2009, having previously spent several years working as a coach of France’s international youth teams.
“Your peers give you this and that’s really nice, but it’s not what’s going to make me win at Auxerre on Sunday,” said Girard.
“For the time being, we’ve won nothing except qualifying for the Champions League. We have to do the necessary at Auxerre.”
Lyon’s Hugo Lloris was named Goalkeeper of the Year and therefore featured in the Team of the Year, which included four players from champions-elect Montpellier.
Ligue 1 Team of the Year (4-2-3-1)
Hugo Lloris (Lyon); Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Nicolas N’Koulou (Marseille), Vitorino Hilton (Montpellier), Henri Bedimo (Montpellier); Rio Mavuba (Lille), Etienne Capoue (Toulouse); Eden Hazard (Lille), Younes Belhanda (Montpellier), Nene (Paris Saint-Germain); Olivier Giroud (Montpellier)

McNamee: First gave Clemens steroids in 1998

5月 17th, 2012 by yanqing

New Jordans 2012 For SaleWASHINGTON (AP) — Speaking softly, nervously and in detail, Brian McNamee testified about the life-changing moment when, he said, he first gave Roger Clemens a “booty shot” of steroids.
The government’s star witness in the Clemens perjury retrial took the stand Monday and told the jury that he injected one of baseball’s most successful pitchers with steroids about eight to 10 times when they were with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998.
“I knew what I was doing was illegal,” McNamee said. “I wish to God I could take it back.”
Clemens is charged with lying to Congress when he testified in 2008 that he had never used steroids or human growth hormone. The first attempt to try him last July ended in a mistrial when prosecutors showed the jury a snippet of videotaped evidence that had been ruled inadmissible. www.shoesjordans23.com
The retrial took until its fifth week to get to the heart of the government’s case: McNamee is the only person who will claim firsthand knowledge of Clemens using performance-enhancing drugs.
In his thick New York accent, McNamee covered a lot of ground in about four hours on the stand — and he still has much more to tell when he returns Tuesday. He recalled how he met Clemens when McNamee was the strength and conditioning coach of the Blue Jays during the 1998 season. He said Clemens gave him a $1,000 tip at the end of spring training, that Clemens approached him one day in the clubhouse and asked him to get rid of a bag of some 20 to 30 bottles of steroids.
Then came the fateful day in June when he was asked by Clemens to come to Clemens’ apartment in the Blue Jays’ Skydome stadium after a game. Womens Nike Air Shoes
McNamee said he found alcohol, needle and gauze and the anabolic steroid Winstrol laid out in the bathroom. He said he felt “a little uncomfortable” while preparing the shot because he’d never done anything like it before. He said he then walked into Clemens’ bedroom.
“Roger pulled down his pants, exposing his right buttocks cheek to me,” McNamee said. A few seconds later, Clemens said he was ready. McNamee said he then “plunged the fluid in into his buttocks.”
After it was done, they “exchanged pleasantries,” according to McNamee.
“That,” McNamee concluded softly, “was the first time I injected Roger Clemens.”
McNamee said he didn’t feel good about the moment, but he got the sense that Clemens “wasn’t good at doing the ‘booty shot.’” Kids Jordan Shoes sale
“I did it,” McNamee said, “because I wanted to help and I wanted to keep my player safe. … I wasn’t under the assumption that was the first time he did that.”
McNamee recited details of another injection later in the season, one he said he gave Clemens in a hurry in a small supply room in the Tampa Bay clubhouse on the getaway day of a road trip. McNamee was so concerned about being discovered that he pressed his foot against the closed door while giving the shot.
McNamee said the injections stopped after Clemens developed an abscess on his buttocks later in the season. He said Clemens walked by and “threw a whole bag (of steroids) at my locker and said, ‘I’m done with it.’”
McNamee recalled some scenes meticulously; other times he was more vague. He occasionally fidgeted with his white shirt or tan jacket and sometimes took long pauses before answering questions. It took him a few seconds to recall his wedding date — perhaps understandable, given he’s going through a divorce — and he initially said three months, instead of three years, when asked how long he worked for the New York Police Department before becoming a bullpen catcher and batting practice pitcher for the New York Yankees in the mid-1990s.
McNamee was barely audible the first time he uttered the word “Roger.” He and Clemens were once good friends; he worked with Clemens for the better part of a decade, in an official capacity with the Blue Jays and later with the Yankees, and also as a personal trainer who would run Clemens through demanding workouts, often at Clemens’ home in Texas.
Clemens watched intently from the defense table, occasionally taking notes or reading materials.
When McNamee returns to the stand Tuesday, he’s expected to testify that he injected Clemens with performance-enhancing drugs in 2000 and 2001. The prosecution is also expected to head off, as best it can, an upcoming cross-examination that is expected to attack McNamee’s integrity. The defense wants to paint McNamee as a serial liar out for personal gain.
The two sides spent the morning arguing over which parts of McNamee’s personal life can be revealed in front of the jury. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton quashed a Clemens subpoena for McNamee’s divorce records, saying it was a “fishing expedition” to look for information to disparage McNamee.
The judge did rule that Clemens’ team could bring up evidence of McNamee’s alleged alcohol problems, including two convictions for driving under the influence. Walton also said that if the defense had evidence that McNamee had obtained prescription drugs online without a prescription, that too could be mentioned.
But the judge said again that defense lawyers may not mention that McNamee was investigated for an alleged sexual assault over a 2001 incident at a St. Petersburg, Fla., hotel involving a woman who was found to have a date rape drug in her system. Walton said the defense could refer to it only as a “serious criminal investigation.” The defense will be able to say that McNamee lied to investigators during that investigation. Charges were never filed in the case.
The day began with the government winning a significant battle about the testimony of former Clemens teammate Andy Pettitte.
Pettitte testified about a conversation 12 years ago in which Clemens supposedly admitted to using HGH — but then acknowledged under cross-examination there was a “50-50″ chance he might have misunderstood Clemens’ remark. The defense wanted the judge to strike Pettitte’s testimony about the conversation, but Walton ruled that it will be up to the jury to decide how much weight to give it.

Star witness says Clemens asked him to give steroid shot

5月 17th, 2012 by yanqing

Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A key prosecution witness in Roger Clemens’s perjury trial said on Monday he started giving the former baseball star “bootie shots” of anabolic steroids at his request early in the 1998 season.
Brian McNamee, whose testimony is crucial to prosecutors’ charges that Clemens lied to Congress about his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs, said he first injected the pitcher with drugs in his apartment suite at the Toronto Blue Jays’ Skydome stadium. Save on Nike Women’s Running Shoes
McNamee, then the Blue Jays’ strength coach, said under prosecution questioning that Clemens had asked him privately to give him a “bootie shot” of testosterone in his buttock. Clemens laid out the drug in an ampoule along with a needle and gauze in his bathroom and told McNamee to prepare the shot. www.jordansretroforsale.com
“I was just suppose to tell him when it was ready,” said McNamee, 45.
He said Clemens came into the bathroom, dropped his pants and bared his right buttock. Clemens flexed it and relaxed it and said, “‘I’m ready,’” McNamee said.
The trainer then injected the drug, which was the color of powdery skim milk.
“THAT WAS REALLY EASY”
“‘Wow, that was really easy,’” he quoted Clemens as saying. “And then just pleasantries … I don’t think we saw each other that night. And that was the first time I injected Roger Clemens.”
McNamee said he gave Clemens eight to 10 injections of testosterone during the summer of 1998, doubling the dose after four or five sessions.
McNamee also injected Clemens in a utility closet of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ clubhouse as players outside were racing to pack and go to the airport, he said. Shopping Results for Kids Jordan Shoes
The former trainer told the court he knew what he was doing was illegal but felt compelled to do it since Clemens was one of the greatest pitchers ever - “a superstar” - and a team leader, he said.
“It was a mistake, and I wish I could have taken it back,” he said.
Clemens halted the injections after he developed an abscess on his buttock, McNamee said. The pitcher walked over in the locker room and tossed a brown bag full of steroid ampoules inside a locker. “‘Get rid of that. I’m done with it,’” McNamee quoted him as saying.
Asked if he discussed with Clemens where the pitcher got the drugs, McNamee said: “Don’t ask, don’t tell. I didn’t really want to” know.
McNamee has said he injected Clemens with anabolic steroids in 1998, 2000 and 2001, and human growth hormone in 2001.
To challenge McNamee’s trustworthiness, Clemens’ lawyers have labeled him a liar and are expected to allege he had substance-abuse problems at the time he has said he gave drugs to Clemens. He is expected to spend several days on the stand.
SPEAKING TO THE JURY
McNamee, who looked thin and pale and was dressed in a light gray suit, directed his answers largely to the jury. Clemens, 49, leaned back in his chair at the defense table as he listened to his former trainer.
His assertions about Clemens are in line with statements he gave to former U.S. Senator George Mitchell for a 2007 report on performance-enhancing drug use in Major League Baseball.
Clemens is being tried for a second time on federal charges of lying to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in 2008 about drug use. His first trial ended in a mistrial last year.
McNamee followed Clemens from the Blue Jayes to the New York Yankees in 2000 as the team’s assistant strength coach.
He was let go by the Yankees in 2001 after complaints of insubordination and after police investigating a Florida rape case said the trainer had lied to them. McNamee was never charged in the case.
But after 2001, McNamee became a personal trainer to Clemens and Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, who has admitted taking human growth hormone. Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale
Pettitte testified two weeks ago that Clemens had told him in 1999 or 2000 he had used human growth hormone. But under questioning by defense lawyers, Pettitte said he was “50-50,” or unsure about his recollection.
Defense lawyers argued that Pettitte’s testimony failed to reach a “preponderance” standard for evidence of more than 50 percent. The standard refers to whether more than half of the evidence points one way or the other.
In a victory for the prosecution earlier Monday, Judge Reggie Walton ruled that Pettitte’s wavering testimony should stand, saying the standard had been met since prosecutors had presented Pettitte’s allegation about Clemens’ comment in a timeline to the jury.
The trial is starting its fourth week. Clemens faces one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making a false statement and two counts of perjury.
Clemens won 354 games and is a record seven-time winner of the yearly Cy Young Awards as best pitcher. He is among the biggest names implicated in drug use in baseball.

‘Survivor: One World’ winner crowned

5月 17th, 2012 by yanqing

Kids Jordan ShoesLOS ANGELES (AP) — “Survivor: One World” should have probably just been called “Survivor: Kim’s World.”
Kim Spradlin not only won the CBS reality competition’s $1 million grand prize Sunday, the crafty 29-year-old bridal shop owner from San Antonio, Texas, also brought the alliance that she helped form at the game’s outset to the final tribal council all while engineering the dismissal of each member of the show’s nine-person jury of former players.
“I strategized until I was blue in the face,” said Spradlin. www.buy-retrojordans.com
The jury ultimately voted for Spradlin over her allies, 33-year-old high school teacher Sabrina Thompson of New York and 26-year-old medical saleswoman Chelsea Meissner of Charleston, S.C. Spradlin, Meissner and Thompson worked together from the first day of the game, which originally featured two tribes divided by sex living on the same beach in Samoa.
“We were a mess at the beginning, and then we just pulled it together,” said Thompson, who nabbed two jury votes to Spradlin’s seven. Spradlin also received the most viewer votes, winning an additional $100,000 fan-favorite prize.
Spradlin secured her place among the final three contestants on the 24th edition of “Survivor” by winning four individual immunity challenges, including the final two physical competitions, which ousted 29-year-old career consultant Christina Cha of Los Angeles and 25-year-old special education teacher Alicia Rosa of Chicago from the 39-day contest. cheap jordan for sale
At the end of the finale, “Survivor” host Jeff Probst announced that the upcoming 25th season would be titled “Survivor: Philippines” and would feature three tribes as well as three returning contestants that previously removed from the game for medical concerns.

West Coast spike in gas prices tied to refineries

5月 17th, 2012 by yanqing

Jordan 8 Fusion on SalePORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Motorists across most of the country have been getting a break on the price of gas, but not on the West Coast.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Oregon was $4.17 Monday, up 16 cents from last week. The average was $4.20 in Washington state and $4.35 in California. Both of those states also had double-digit increases.
Meanwhile, the national average price dropped 5 cents to $3.73.
“The West Coast is zigging while the rest of the country is zagging,” said Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service. www.buy-jordansretro.com
A shortage of gasoline tied to issues at the region’s refineries has caused prices to spike in the wholesale market, analysts said.
Gasoline supplies in California are down more than 20 percent from a year ago. West Coast gasoline stocks haven’t been this low in the month of May since May 1992, according to the Department of Energy. Kid Jordan Shoes For Sale
“That’s a long time, especially when you consider how many vehicles have been added to the fleet,” Kloza said.
Gas prices increased sharply across the U.S. in recent months because of a run-up in the cost of crude oil. But the price of a barrel has slid to less than $95, providing a bit of relief to drivers in most places. Save on Nike Women’s Jordan Shoes
The West Coast switches to a more expensive fuel blend in summer to fight pollution, but analysts blame the current price spike on the failed restart of a BP refinery in Blaine, Wash., and maintenance work at several California refineries.
The BP refinery, the third-largest on the West Coast, produces 20 percent of Washington’s gasoline needs but has been shut down since a February fire. The company planned to restart last week, but that has been pushed back because of an undisclosed problem.
Alison apRoberts, a California Energy Commission spokeswoman, said the decision to suspend the restart likely led BP and others to buy gasoline on the wholesale market to cover their contractual obligations. Shopping Results for Nike Air Jordan 1
Meanwhile, five of California’s 12 refineries — three in the San Francisco Bay Area and two in Southern California — temporarily reduced production because of planned maintenance. Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale
Kloza and other analysts expect the surge in prices to be short-lived as refineries return to typical production.
“This isn’t the new normal, and it’s not the arrival of those apocalyptic predictions of $5 to $6 gasoline,” he said.

Europe at the crossroads: splinter or unite

5月 10th, 2012 by yanqing

Jordan Shoes For SaleBRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union, a hope for peace that rose from the fires of World War II, paused Wednesday to honor its past and ponder its future — and how it can ensure it still has one in light of the anti-austerity anger expressed this week by voters in France and Greece. www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
May 9 is Europe Day, a commemoration of a key event that led to the creation of the modern EU. It was on this day in 1950 that French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman issued a declaration calling for an integrated Europe.
Tens of millions of Europeans had perished in twin cataclysms of World Wars I and II. At root, Schuman’s dream was simple: He wanted an economic union, a sharing of strategic resources in Europe that would “make war not only unthinkable but materially impossible.”
By that measure the project has been a resounding success. The EU has grown to 27 members and the economic union has grown ever deeper, including a common market and, for 17 countries, a shared currency. The interlocking interests have helped to shield the bloc from any possibility of war.
But on Sunday voters in France and Greece voted in droves against the strategy of harsh budget cuts leaders contend is necessary to preserve the economic union that is at the heart of the European Union.
The question then arises: Is the European dream in danger? Could it all come unstuck?
“The current situation is extremely fragile and extremely dangerous,” said Zsolt Darvas, a research fellow at Bruegel, a Brussels-based economic think tank.
Greece’s two major parties, both of which backed a drastic package of budget cuts in order to secure a desperately needed bailout loan, were so thumped by voters that even put together they would not command a majority in Parliament.
That’s alarming because it raises the prospect of protracted political paralysis, in which market panic could trigger a Greek financial meltdown and possibly force the country out of the currency union. That would endanger the viability of the entire European project. Jordan Shoes
And what of the Franco-German cooperation that was key to the EU during its inception, and more recently instrumental in charting Europe’s course through its crisis?
French voters ousted Nicolas Sarkozy as president on Sunday and replaced him with the Socialist Francois Hollande, a leader not at all committed to swallowing more doses of the EU’s bitter austerity.
That raises questions about the continent’s key alliance, since German Chancellor Angela Merkel is the staunchest champion of Europe’s strategy of belt-tightening.
However, some see the unraveling of the Merkel-Sarkozy pairing as possibly a good thing.
The two were so close they were collectively dubbed “Merkozy.” They met before each EU summit to make decisions that, critics say, the other EU heads of government were simply expected to endorse.
Europeans increasingly saw a democracy deficit in which the top players were bullying weaker members into submission.
“That was not the right thing to do for Europe,” said Paul De Grauwe, an economist with the London School of Economics. “This is the reason the union might break up.”
Or one of the reasons.
The other is the potential catastrophe of Greece breaking away from the euro.
If that were to happen, virtually every Greek with euros in the bank would rush to withdraw them and deposit them abroad, said Darvas of Bruegel. The country’s financial system would collapse within days, and the country would suffer a terrible financial crisis — far worse than the one it now endures.
Beyond that, analysts say that Greece’s exit from the euro would leave investors wondering which country would be next, raising the prospect of a financial contagion worse than any that has been seen in the course of the crisis.
“The European project will be in danger,” Darvas said.
The irony is that Greek voters are not rejecting the European Union, just an EU strategy of unrelenting budget cuts that has pushed struggling economies deeper into the hole.
Antonis Samaras, the leader of Greece’s Conservative New Democracy party, has called for the terms of the country’s bailout loans to be re-negotiated to put more emphasis on stimulating growth.
Some experts say that slowing down the push for budget balancing — though not abandoning it — while stimulating the economy could form the basis of a more successful EU approach to the crisis.
But there are more radical voices on the rise. Alexis Tsipras, the left-wing politician now trying to form a government in Greece, wants to pull out of the agreement under which the country is receiving bailout funds.
Samaras said that would bring catastrophe.
“The Greek people have not given a mandate to destroy the country, nor to leave the euro,” Samaras said. “Quite the opposite. And those who understood something like that are altering and misinterpreting the electoral result.”
As the political wrangling in Greece continues, the question of whether the union will hold together, whether Robert Schuman’s dream will survive, hangs in the balance.
EU leaders, while they have been accused of often being a half-step late in their responses to the series of crises, have nevertheless shown strong and durable political will in their efforts to save the European project.
They have faced down other crises that felt more immediately threatening, such as in December, when it was unknown whether Greece would fulfill the conditions to receive a €130 billion rescue package.
But De Grauwe says Europe is today entering more treacherous terrain.
“This is in a way deeper, because it’s more political,” he said. “It’s testing the political viability of the project.”

Inflation-wary Bank of England to halt money-printing press

5月 10th, 2012 by yanqing

New Jordans 2012 For SaleLONDON (Reuters) - The Bank of England looks set to call a halt to its asset-buying program on Thursday, despite the economy having slipped into recession and renewed risks rising from the euro zone debt crisis, as UK inflation remains stubbornly high. www.shoesjordans23.com
Ending its program of quantitative easing, or QE, may make life more difficult for Britain’s Conservative-led ruling coalition, which was battered in local elections last week and relies on loose monetary policy to soften the pain of austerity measures aimed at cutting the country’s huge public borrowing.
But after buying 325 billion pounds of government debt with newly created money, 50 billion pounds of which has been purchased in the last three months, the bank is likely to judge that its policy stance is already supportive enough.
Policymakers, most prominently deputy BoE governor Paul Tucker, have also indicated that inflation may not fall as fast as forecast below the bank’s 2 percent target after it rose for the first time in six months in March, touching 3.5 percent, the highest rate in the Group of Seven major advanced economies.
Only five of the 58 economists polled by Reuters expect the central bank to announce further asset buying when it publishes its decision at 1100 GMT. [ID:nL5E8G2AGR] Jordan Shoes
The minutes of the Monetary Policy Committee’s (MPC) April meeting showed that inflation worries had become more dominant, and that long-standing quantitative easing advocate Adam Posen had dropped his vote for more QE.
Bank of England Governor Mervyn King has also said that the economy looks set to recover slowly and steadily later this year while inflation is too high.
Still, Thursday’s decision could be a close call.
“If the MPC wants to expand QE, it has no shortage of justifications,” Barclays economist Simon Hayes said. “Recent weeks have brought a procession of bad news.”
The economy shrank 0.2 percent in the first three months of 2012, putting Britain officially back into recession, while previously more upbeat business surveys showed slowing growth. The euro zone crisis has also flared up again with turmoil in Greece. Cheap Air Jordans
“And yet, inflation has not been at the 2 percent target for more than two years,” Hayes said, adding that more asset purchases may do little to kick-start sluggish demand or ease the dangers from the euro zone debt crisis.
“Under this cloud of doubt the MPC may prefer to hold fire unless a fresh crisis, or more prolonged weakness in demand, makes the case for QE irresistible,” he added.
The central bankers will base their decisions on updated growth and inflation forecasts, which King will announce next week.

Vale wins injunction barring Brazil tax debt payment

5月 10th, 2012 by yanqing

retro jordans for cheapSAO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazil’s highest court suspended on Wednesday the payment of about 24 billion reais ($12.4 billion) in back taxes by mining company Vale , handing the world’s largest iron ore producer a temporary victory in a dispute with the government. www.jordansretroforsale.com
Justice Marco Aurélio de Mello at the Federal Supreme Court said a claim by the Finance Ministry’s legal adviser to demand an immediate payment by Vale was not possible until the court, known as STF, discussed it in a plenary session, according to a ruling distributed by email. Retro Jordans
Vale is fighting four actions by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service, which claims the mining firm has avoided paying levies on profits obtained at some of its foreign subsidiaries. The Rio de Janeiro-based company says it has already paid this money to foreign governments and taxing the company again is an unfair burden.
“I submit this to a plenary vote so, jointly, the court decides whether the claims go against the country’s Constitution,” Mello said in his ruling.
Shares of the company, which have fallen 2 percent over the past 12 months, have suffered in the wake of the dispute, one of the nation’s biggest against a single company. The dispute underscores the political and regulatory risks that companies the size of Vale face around the world as governments seek to take greater control of national resources.
Vale has in recent years been the subject of government pressure to invest more in projects that create jobs but are detrimental to profits. The government’s tax claims, which date back from the early 2000s, amount to more than half Vale’s $22.9 billion profit in 2011 and nearly all of its 2010 profit. Air Jordan Retro Shoes For Cheap
The tax dispute could also mark a setback for Vale’s overseas growth strategy. For years, Vale sought to become the world’s top diversified miner by boosting revenue from sales of metals and minerals other than iron ore.
If the decision holds up in the courts, it could open the door for cases against other Brazilian-based companies that have tax liabilities on foreign earnings.
A spokeswoman for Vale in Rio de Janeiro said the company would not comment on the STF decision.ike Air Jordan Shoes On Sale

Egypt: Low court orders suspension of elections

5月 10th, 2012 by yanqing

Nike Air Jordan Shoes ShopCAIRO (AP) — A low-level administrative court ruled Wednesday in favor of a lawsuit calling for Egypt’s presidential election to be suspended, a decision that is likely to be overturned, a judicial official and a lawyer said.
Legal experts said that the order issued by a provincial court would probably be reversed, because the suit was based on a technicality. Cheap Jordan Shoes
A court at Benha, in the Nile delta some 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Cairo, ruled that the Supreme Elections Commission overstepped its mandate by calling on voters to head to the polls on May 23 to cast their ballots, Egypt’s state news agency reported.
The court said that the ruling military council is the only body authorized to make that appeal, the Middle East News Agency reported. Retro Jordan Shoes
Lawyer Ahmed Seif al-Islam said that the ruling can easily be appealed. A judicial official confirmed that, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.
Egypt’s presidential election, the first since the ouster of longtime ruler Hosni Mubarak’s regime last year after an 18-day uprising, is set to start on May 23-24.
The ruling military council issued a statement on Wednesday declaring that there will be no postponement of the election.
There are 13 presidential candidates contesting the election. The front-runners are mainly Islamists and onetime members of Mubarak’s regime.
Also late Wednesday, the news agency reported that Egypt’s Cabinet was being reshuffled. Nike Air Jordan Shoes
The report said the changes affect only four ministries — culture, labor, higher education and parliament affairs.
Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri, appointed by the ruling military, retains his post.
Since taking control of the parliament in elections, the Muslim Brotherhood has been demanding that it be allowed to form its own Cabinet. The military has resisted.
